About CRASH
comics for lgbtqia+ anti-discrimination and inclusion
CRASH comes from the need of giving voice to a minority group, the LGBTQIA+ community, which is experiencing discrimination and violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics in various contexts such as, at work, school; at restaurants, bars and shops; in accessing housing, healthcare or social services (FRA, A long way to go for LGBTI equality, 2020). CRASH wants to raise awareness, give visibility and a proper space of representation to the LGBTQIA+ community, by using the medium of comics designed by youth. It will design, develop and test a cooperation model, based on youth artistic and creative skills, to provide a space to break down society's prejudices and stereotypes.
The CRASH specific objectives are:
1. Engage a group of young artists and comic designers to imagine a new storytelling aimed to represent LGBTQIA+ communities in a realistic way.
2. Support the empowerment of young designers and artists to enable them to prevent different forms of intolerance through creativity aimed at attitude change.
3. Build the capacity of local communities to spread an “attitude revolution” against prejudice and intolerance of diverse groups and individuals through non-formal training.
4. Develop the evidence-base for attitude change in the field of anti-discrimination towards LGBTQIA+ communities and support the spread of an intolerance prevention model throughout the EU.
PROJECT PARTNERS
GENDERLENS
Genderlens is the leading association for transgender/non-binary youth and their families in Italy.
It arose five years ago from the need to create a space of information, listening, and sharing, where gender diversity in childhood and adolescence is not considered a pathology or a problem to be solved but one of the many expressions of human diversity.
GenderLens strongly believes that the best way to accompany this life experience is to act, not by limiting or changing the child or adolescent's behaviour, but by educating people and institutions to respect all identities and expanding the social imaginaries about transitude.
Only through the active involvement of social actors such as parents, teachers, and health professionals can young trans/non-binary youth feel safe and confident enough to explore their gender identity free from fear, isolation, and discrimination.
